Welcome to Saaisha India Foundation
Saaisha India Foundation (Saaisha means Meaningful Life), is a charitable organisation, of compassionate, dedicated and enthusiastic individuals working towards bringing comfort to and making a difference in the lives of women and children in a tangible way.
Our members are avid and experienced crocheters and knitters, who create handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone a mastectomy. The prosthesis are lovingly called knockers. We are registered with Knittedknockers.org of USA. Knockers are made from patterns specified by them.
The Hindu, leading newspaper dated 26th Oct 2018 mentions: “Mumbai-based Jayashree Ratan came across this cheekily-named group when one of her relatives had a mastectomy and was struggling to come to terms with her body. An avid knitter, she says, “I made a pair of these ‘knitted knockers’ for her in early March, and she was quite happy with them.” Essentially, it is an insert made of cotton yarn with washable and removable stuffing, distributed free of cost by the organisation founded by US-based Barbara Demorest, after undergoing a mastectomy.”
